My Garden
Welcome!
Come and walk with me.
Jimmie and I have been working hard to make our garden
something we can be proud of. This will be the second full year for our garden. We are
still seeing what works and what doesn't, and are beginning to see the results of last year's
efforts. I've been busy transplanting and dividing this spring, trying to fill in bare spots, and propagate
more of what seems to be most happy living in my yard.
We planted this Climbing Yellow Blaze last spring. It grew nicely last year and had a few flowers, but this year it has exceeded all my
expectations! We've even had the pleasure of watching a pair of robins raise their babies in it this spring. I've never had a climbing rose do so well and am wondering how in the world I managed to get so lucky!!
Smell the Roses
I couldn't resist putting this in. Andrea loved my roses...had to smell each one of them, then pick
a few to take to Mommy.
A Work in Progress
Looking along the side of the garden, in front of the beds, I have planted purple ajuga as a
border between the steps and the rail. I started with just two plants last year and have managed to line two entire
sides with it this year. Behind the child's bench I have planted baby hostas and am impatiently waiting for them to grow.
Feeding the Squirrels
Andi and Aaron each had a handful of sunflower seeds and were chasing the
squirrels, trying to get them to "eat your dinner." As you can imagine, there
were no takers.
I sure am glad that the kids love my garden. They get so excited when they see the birds,
the fish, and the squirrels, and they have a wonderful time running around the paths....which is
very good...it helps to keep them out of the beds!!
Here is a view from the sunny side out by the patio. I have four o'clocks, summer
phlox, a large pink hibiscus, yellow roses climbing on the arbor, and red canna
lilies that will grow up past the gutters! I love sitting here and soaking up
the sun while I listen to the birds sing.
If you like birds, butterflies, and gardening as much as I do,
check out Birds and Blooms from
Reiman Publications. Lots of beautiful garden and bird photos in this magazine.
